Making stupid mistakes – it seems to be the only thing I'm really good at.

Unplanned exercise routine

This is the story of my troubles that all started for being 5 minutes late for class. Did I get punished by the teacher or something? No. The problem was to find the rest of the group after they had changed their location.

I thought my class would start at 9:15 as usual and arrived at 9:05. No-one was there. “I am bit early, maybe they’ll show up.” After five minutes, a little doubt came into my mind – maybe I should check the schedual in case of any last-minute changes.

Luckily, there was a computer nearby. I oped my e-mail – nothing. I checked the information page of the course’s website. Nothing. By that time, I really wished I had had my cell-phone with me, but I had left it in the charger.

So, the only option was to run home to get the %ยค/&% phone which, by the way, I nearly always have with me. Except that day. I climbed the rather steep uphill road back home and grabbed my phone that had two unanswered calls a text message waiting.

I love my group members. (Our class of nearly 150 people has been divided into small groups of 6-8 students for the practical studies.) When they noticed I wasn’t there, they kindly informed me about the change of location due to difficulties to get an ultrasound machine to the original place.

Already sweatting because of the swift journey home, I turned around and started running back to the hospital. Again, I was dearly grateful that I lived so closeby. And the way back was all downhill. Despite that, I had to stop to catch my breath for a few seconds before I stepped into the room we had the practice in.

It was 9:39 when I finally arrived. I apologised and tried to explain myself but the teacher interrupted me saying it’s OK and that I hadn’t missed anything important, they were just getting started after a bit of theory in the beginning. Exhausted but relieved, I sat down trying to cool off after all the running.

The correct time to arrive would have been at 9:00 and – as I checked afterwards – they did inform us about it via e-mail. A vaguely titled e-mail two weeks earlier which I totally had missed. Don’t get me wrong; I am the only one to blame for this mishap, after all, all the other group members were there in time.

Lesson of the story? If you think you need more exercise, just leave your phone at home.
